Don't you think that some people are just better off within the org?
by paradiseseeker inthis is my first post, i will introduce myself later.
first of all, i must say that english is not my mother tongue (i'm spanish), so excuse me if i make any mistake.. do you think that some people simply can't cope with being outside the jws?
some of them are too worldlyphobic to be around non-jws, too dependent on a fixed set of rules in order to carry on with their lives, too dependent on the hope of paradise and resurrection, too unable to leave their personal comfort zone within the organization.

Old Navy - re: your post on page 4 - I meant to like your post and I accidentally hit dislike, then thought I could “toggle” it off, and gave you another dislike! Eep! So sorry!
I’ve tried to “like” your post again, so hopefully it works. If you see 2 dislikes, that was fumbly, bumbling me!

Singing todays WT
by road to nowhere inthe jist was that we all should sing.
then the first 6 or 8 paragraphs describe how early bible accounts have trained and set aside musicians to do the singing while everyone else listened.. the songs they have put out have no soul, rhythm, or soothing melodies as a whole.
the old hymns are some real music, even if you don't agree with the "teachings".. there is no admission of poetry using archaic language at times for affect or to add to the rhyme, they have to have everything agree with the grey bible.. anyone speak foreign languages?

omg. Just when you think they can’t get any more ridiculous!
Shall we all gather to laugh (or cry?)
I, for one, shall be gobsmacked, lol.
It seems David Splane fancies himself a composer, and is heavily weighed down with the importance of making sure his flock sing his songs with all appropriateness, respect, boldness, fearlessness, vigor and vim, etc.
But my god, better make sure the sisters (and children and any possible newly-interested people) aren’t singing these weighty words of instruction, counsel, and admonition aloud toward any brothers, especially those glorious ones, the princes of the earth, the stars in Jesus’ right hand! (Otherwise known as ‘elders’, no matter their age, or to little baptized boys, or toward any male, for that matter!) *gasp!*
Can you feel the weight of this responsibility?? My gods, we should shiver in awe at the magnificent ways Jehovah/Splane/et all, are shouldering this great work in this Time of The End!
Sing, you people!! And know and value and understand the importance of it!! But please read the fine print and caveats toward sisters, these potential (possibly powerful?) Jezebels!!
Sisters, thou shall not sing instructions toward any powerful (baptized) male!! Know thy place, yet sing with boldness (though too much boldness may be dealt with as further addendums in future study articles!)
Are we not amazed and thankful that Jehovah/Splane/Morris/Lett/et all, are providing their flock with such important spiritual guidance in these critical times?!? Thank goodness we have this timely spiritual food to sustain us through these momentous days.

So many things... so many small, niggling things...
Not having wind chimes.
Not throwing rice or confetti at weddings.
Not saying a toast 🥂 or clinking glasses.
Not saying “bless you” after someone sneezes.
Not wishing someone good luck.

aspects of shunning
by stan livedeath inmany members on here have been shunned.
we know whats its like--and the effect it has had on our lives.
but what about those of us who practiced shunning before--when we were members of the watchtower cult ?.

To my great regret, the JW religion and its practices “fit” into some twisted, wounded part of my soul — a part that is finally healing and growing and learning —
But the religion’s darker aspects (like shunning) fit into my “punishing” mental aspect at the time... I felt very spiritual, loyal, faithful, whatever crap, when I studiously shunned someone.
I remember actually feeling surprised when a DF’d person would be hurt or angry by my shunning them, because weren’t they supposed to appreciate my faithful stand and be moved to return to Jehovah...??
(If they responded angrily, it meant my shunning was “justified” because they obviously didn’t appreciate or understand the loving discipline and spiritual correction from Jehovah... And if they seemed sad, this was very confusing to me too, because perhaps it meant they didn’t understand or appreciate spiritual things...?)
...
The very thought of that mindset now makes me sick to my stomach. It hurts my head, and heart.

Wow.... just... wow. Gobsmacked....
PeteZaHut, Magnum, you nailed it. This is such “blasphemy” and hypocrisy to their previous beliefs and constipated practices.
When you think that just a few years ago, they were counselling couples against hugging during prayers or excessive hand-holding (thus being ‘distracting’ or even ‘stumbling’ to others) and taking away the focus from Jehovah (thus elevating themselves and perhaps being guilty of pride and/or displaying a lack of humility toward the dignity of theocratic worship, blah, blah, blah)... well!!!! The head spins.
And the song!!! “How does it make you FEEL?” !?!?!?!????!!!??? I mean, FEEL????? The religion which previously and pompously paraded their propagandist crap about NOT feeling and NOT being emotional - where they TAUGHT and EDUCATED (their words) their followers through “accurate knowledge” and “study” and not through sentiment, feeling, or emotionalism (something they sneered at when other religions did this!)
HYPOCRITES!
Vipers!
Backwards, self-righteous, smug, clueless, inept, bumbling, stumbling - idiots - blind leading the blind - blatant religious idiocy and hypocrisy - ridiculous attempt at relevancy - total awkwardness -
I am spluttering with sheer gobsmackedness at their attempts to become .... whatever the hell they’re attempting to become!

Hahaha, I’m so “brazen”, lol.
But we’ve had the JWs be pretty active in our territory recently, and I got to say this to them on two separate occasions, to three different borgites, lol! (It was a glorious moment for me, haha!)
They were trying to tell me about their wonderful website and TV broadcasting channel and I said, “Ah yes, THE ‘GOVERNING BODY’ SHOW!”
(Pause for effect, timing... gauge reaction of audience...)
— And yes, there it was!! — That JW frown of disapproval, of knowing they’re hearing something “not quite right” and which is possibly disrespectful toward their dear GB leaders — but also possibly implanting a new thought or interpretation on how they could now view this TV channel or their dear leaders...
OMG, it was the best... to see that frown on their faces (ALL OF THEM REACTED THE SAME WAY!) and knowing that I could just “leave that there,” hanging in space, soaking into their brain (hopefully)!
... and possibly helping them to see that they are being led (perhaps astray?) by men, mere men, mere mortal men (“...do not put your trust in nobles nor in the son of earthling man who have no power of salvation...”) — men who constantly title themselves and glorify themselves — these Pharisee men with their doctrines and decrees, their new light and rules and threats and punishments... oooh, aaah! — the great governing body (or do we capitalize that now?) — *The Great Governing Body* — and their ‘GOVERNING BODY’ SHOW!!
— and haha, YES! — to have seen that frown on their face, to have witnessed their discomfort — perhaps they were hearing this expression for the first time — and yet there was *no response* from any of them, they all stood there, all ill at ease, all looking at me uncomfortably, and they could not, and did not respond to my comment!
💕
It is how I will always now refer their website and TV channel, haha.
“THE ‘GOVERNING BODY’ SHOW!!”
💕
I think it’s subtle, crafty, and thought-provoking.... (cautious as serpents, gentle as doves)
I would like to think that I came up with this expression from my own originality, but I’m sure it’s out there. 😄

she died last week at the age of 82. the poor old dear was still zealously knocking on doors while in ill health.

Yes, maybe in time they will learn to respect people for the unique people and personalities that we are and that bringing appropriate honour to us also brings honour to the Creator/God/Great Spirit/Allah/Universe/Energy/Love Source from which we sprang....

Unprivileged
by Wake Me Up Before You Jo-Ho insomething just dawned on me today as i processed my assimilation into the real world (thanks to our new poster, @jester, giving me a major throwback to my first post).. when you're a jehovah's witness, you really are in some sort of la la land.
things which are perfectly normal are acts of eating from the table of the demons.
things which are horribly grotesque and extremely unjust are branded as "righteousness".

That was an awesome post, JoHo..! It really is like peeling back layers from an onion to see how indoctrinated and controlled we were.
You don’t know what you don’t know...
I’m about 5-10 years out, and it really has been a journey of awakening and insights and “revelations”, which are still happening and which still amaze me.
Your thoughts about “privileges” vs. “rights” is so Orwellian (have you read “1984”??) and is such an example of black-white thinking and the cognitive dissonance which occurs when one tries to explain or justify it. (Freedom=slavery, war=peace <—-Orwell, “1984”.)

I looked up these scriptures in the new NWT:
Romans 2: 21, 22 - “21 do you, however, the one teaching someone else, not teach yourself? You, the one preaching, “Do not steal,” do you steal? 22 You, the one saying, “Do not commit adultery,” do you commit adultery? You, the one abhorring idols, do you rob temples?”
Matthew 23: 3 - “3 Therefore, all the things they tell you, do and observe, but do not do according to their deeds, for they say but they do not practice what they say.”
